I originally wrote this post about my favourite Disney World books because a friend of mine published his third book about Disney World. What was extra special was that I was mentioned in the preface (incredibly exciting). Having worked in Disney World, and considering how much I love Disney, I know the value of a great book when helping you plan your trip, and so I decided to add to this post and include some of the best Disney World books for you to use when planning your trip!
Some of these are full-on Disney guide books, whilst others are books about Disney (if that makes sense?). The guide books can be used when planning your trip to Disney World, whilst the latter are just great reading material for some background info before visiting the place where dreams come true.

From Screen to Theme
From Screen to Theme is a Disney book series by Brent Dodge. It helps you find references to your favourite Disney movies around Walt Disney World! When I lived in Orlando I used his book as a sort of encyclopedia, looking up my favourite movies when I felt like it. Then I could run and check out the sights and details around the parks for my play days.
I even sent a copy to my mum for Christmas in order for her (and my family) to prepare for their upcoming trip to visit me in Orlando!
Brent’s second book consisted of taking a closer look at the then newly opened Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. This also becomes pretty clear from its name – A Closer Look: At the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland.
His new book is a continuation of that success, giving you a closer look at the Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square! It’s packed with fun facts, hidden details and stories about all the attractions, areas and dining places in Liberty Square. Whether you’re a Haunted Mansion fan or a lover of the never-ending Christmas shop this book is for you!
Another thing making me extra excited: My name may or may not be in the ‘acknowledgements’ page at the beginning of the Fantasyland book! I also may or may not have made Brent take me whenever he was doing research for his book, just so that I could think “I was there for that” when reading it..
The Disney Book: A Celebration of the World of Disney
This is such a great book for you (and the whole family) to draw inspiration from and just get excited about your trip. It is filled with magic, facts, photos and trivia covering all aspects of Disney’s Universe. Personally, I think it’s a great coffee table book (such a conversation starter), but then again; I have Disney art all around my apartment. This book takes you through the history of Disney, and the different phases the company has gone through. A whole chapter is dedicated to Pocahontas (“A Heroine of History”), my favourite Disney Princess (and all-round kickass woman), which I love.
The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World
What better way to prepare for your trip than to do some research on all the secrets you can discover in Disney World? It is pretty obvious that nothing was left for chance when Disney World was built, and with every expansion or new attraction, there are more incredible details to notice. From Imagineer signatures to the lipstick stain on one of the champagne glasses in the Tower of Terror (on the table), you’ll not only discover the secrets of Disney World but also learn about the stories behind them!
Fodor’s Walt Disney World Guide
How can I write this post and not include a proper Disney World guide book? Of course, Fodor’s is my go-to recommendation (you may or may not know that I have contributed to their Norway books), and this book also includes information about Universal Studios and Orlando in general. This book will make planning your Disney trip super easy, as it is equipped with detailed maps, insider tips and lots more! It’s definitely the place to start, especially for first-time visitors.

These look great! I love comparing the movies to things at the parks!
Those sound great! I’m really intrigued by that first one. I’m currently doing a series on my blog where I go back and re-watch all of the animated films and then do a blog post. One of the things I’ve been including in the posts is where you can find references to the films in the park, and some of them are a lot trickier than others! So I’ll have to check out that book!
